The Challenge

South Dakota Lottery came to Lawrence & Schiller and fjorge to rebuild the South Dakota Lottery’s website. They wanted to update the South Dakota Lottery experience with something fresh and purposeful for both tenured and new players alike. Another goal was to enhance the admin experience with an easier to update content management system. We took the mission on to cater to the specific needs of the South Dakota Lottery. 

In addition, a new web application utilizing the sharp branding of the South Dakota Lottery re-energized the brand and user experience. Establishing a cohesive experience for both the South Dakota Lottery players and the admin user was a priority. It was also essential to house game data and other useful information for users in this first phase rollout.

The Solution

Our team was tasked to create a web application that contains functionality, usability, manageability and attractiveness. Initially the use of Contentful to build the website was the direction to get it done. To make this more cost effective the alternative was for fjorge to do it ourselves. This was done by utilizing WordPress. 

South Dakota Lottery needed an authentication tool that reflects their current business needs. WordPress was then the chosen CMS used for development. Here, we were able to take advantage of the Headless CMS capabilities within WordPress. In this utilization, the integrations required the project to be linked via APIs, IGT, which manages the lottery game data, and Braze, a CRM that will handle the Players Club user profile data, favourites and the South Dakota Lottery’s user engagement. To ensure player data is secure and logins are authenticated, fjorge developed the authentication feature that allowed  integration with the web application and interacted with Braze to check User profile data.
